Double Standards and Gender Roles Empty
PostSubject: Double Standards and Gender Roles   Double Standards and Gender Roles EmptyTue Nov 20, 2007 5:02 pm

I've noticed many double standards when it comes to gender roles... makes me stop and wonder... is something wrong with the society we live in?

For example:

When a woman engages in casual or promiscous sex, she is called a "slut" or a "whore". When a man does the same he gets a high five from his buddies and gets called a "pimp".

When a woman gets money and free gifts from a man, the worst she gets called is a golddigger. Now apart from having their own catchy tune, being called a "golddigger" is still an insult, but think of the same scenario when a man gets free money from a woman. He is a no good lazy scumbag living off of his girlfriend.

When an older man chases after a much younger woman he is a perv, when a older woman chases after a much younger male, she is a "cougar".

Can you think of any more stereotypes?

Side note: Just thought we needed a few more serious topics on GZ. No need to worry, the nonsensical ones are still around. Razz

Double Standards and Gender Roles Empty
PostSubject: Re: Double Standards and Gender Roles   Double Standards and Gender Roles EmptyThu Nov 22, 2007 11:21 pm

well i dont know what to say but i have alittle story to tell...i was going out with this girl who basically used me for show n tell. she's a high school drop out who does not hold a steady job. does not intend on going back to school to get a GED. and basically plans on marrying some guy whose gonna hand her everything in her hand like i did for like the thirteen months we went around. now dont get me wrong i did like her in the beginning and it was my mom who really opened my eyes to what she was doing. now honestly the only reason i stayed with her in the last five months is because this girl used to give me freeeeeeeeeeee baseball tickets with really really really tight seats. she used to get them from her stepbro. god knows how he got them. but basically it went both ways rite? i mean wen i figured out she was using me i was like devastated n crap. i mean i tried helping her. my family used to help her. but she never wanted to help herself. she wanted me for something. hell yeah i wanted those baseball tickets.

i know this story had nothing to do with the topic but i saw the word GOLD DIGGER.

Actually i would like to add alittle to this Mrs Pharoh

A "slut/Whore do what they do for money..Atleast majority do..
A"Pimp" pimps girls for money too.

Also I have a story which occured last Year... Where my ex which we were together for 4 months used me...
She was well developed meaning she wasn't poor or anything.
I taught she loved me maybe she did or she just love my looks an what i had...
I Read about balling youth story an you aint the only one bro...
I loved this chick an would have done anything to keep her happy and in line but i guess she didn't love me at all.Whatever she needed or wanted just to keep her happy. But material things don't bring all the happiness but to her it did.
she lived well off of me. I despise her for what she did an i was blinded but my sister an bro brought me to the light cause they observed. She didn't lack of anything i saw no reason for her to do what she did...But it's all in the past.An at this present moment she's like a bit*ch! hey don't get me wrong..she slinging from one dude to another. Isn't the saying :You never miss the water till the well runs dry: or You don't know when you have something good till it's gone: Well after realization i left her an i put her as a bad object in my past.It wasn't easy for me but I couldn't stand to be used anymore. It's like theres not a day she dont want something.

It's strange some girls do it for fun an while some do it cause they really need it...
But i don't agree with either partner to be used!
If you love someone or have any feelings towards them you wouldn't cross that line...
I mean if you need help with finance or something it's cool but don't use anyone for your advantage

I agree, I don't see why both genders can't be looked at in more equal terms. I don't think it makes sense that both can do the same thing and have that action be looked at so differently. It's hypocritical.

I'm also against the whole "the woman's place is in the house and kitchen and her job is to take care of the children" type view. I think that's both gender's responsibility.

Sorry I didn't give a better response, I'm not completely awake right now.
