PostSubject: Rape- Does the Victim Provoke it?   Sat Jan 19, 2008 4:28 pm

I came across this topic on another forum and I thought it was interesting because I've heard people say if a woman is dressed promiscuously that she's asking to be raped. I think I already know what the general answer might be but I was wondering what you guys might have to say on this topic. Do you think that the victim provokes the rapist because of the way they are dressed?

While I do think that some women over-do it when dressing that way, I don't think that anyone asks to be raped and it's the sole fault of a rapist.

Asking to be raped? That's ridiculous. No woman wants to be raped or is asking for it. Whoever thinks that is a moron.

Yes, which woman gonna ask to be raped?

Umm, I don't think dressing have anything to do with this. I dress how I want to dress from short skirts to short pants. I don't see anything is wrong with that neither do I see myself asking to be raped by dressing that way.

Exactly.. there's a difference between a woman wanting to look sexy and wanting to have sex. Dressing sexy doesn't mean a woman wants sex, or deserves to be raped. NO ONE deserves to be raped, no matter the circumstances.

Good lord then is best i stop dress sexy rass...women gettin violent these days lol. j/k

On the real tho...when i first saw this thread i was laughing (no offense to the author) but like the first set of posts indicated No one deserves to be rape.

But now in the eyes of a rapist....obviously thats a whole other case.
They're messed up in the head and yes of course on some level what the women wear is a factor but then again you gotta look at it this way a rapist is a rapist and will do what he has to do no matter what you wear to satisfy his sick and disgusting needs.

Bah...rapists....I Despise em.

yup I agree. Like I said I don't agree with this (I started the topic for the sake of starting a topic because I haven't really seen many meaningful posts in here lately-- just to get a discussion started) but I've heard it said before and I think it's ridiculous and to say something like that is in a way justifying the rapist in doing what he does because it's saying that he had a reason. I honestly believe a person could be dressed like a nun and still be raped... it doesn't matter what you wear.

Well its not like women who dress sexy are the only demographical population that rapists target... Females in general are targets for rape, old or young, regardless of the way they dress. So I don't know how anyone could come to the conclusion that women are to blame for their own rapes. Its the mentality of the rapists themselves which provokes a rape. And rapists usually go after a target who looks vulnerable (aka looks like they cannot defend themselves).

Well I'm not saying that people say this in response to every rape or that people say this is the sole cause of rape but sometimes if a woman is known to dress sexy, older people sometimes say "Oh look at the way she dress, she asked for that." But yes I agree with what u said.

From someone reaching into the state where they are thinking of raping someone, no dress code and style could save whoever they catch, someone dress code might play a part in it, but at the end of the day itís the mind state of the pray who is hunting, cause anyone could get raped, well dressed / not. But rapists seemingly attack the ones that look like they canít defend them for the world.

Yea I basically agree with what everyone here said... I mean a lot of women dress sexy, but that doesn't mean that all men are going to respond by sexually assaulting them. A rapist is a rapist, and if someone is inclined to rape, they will. Saying a victim is partially responsible for their own rape is like saying a victim of theft who has had their purse or wallet stolen is responsible because they were carrying a purse on their arms, or a wallet in their pants. I mean, yea, they have a choice to dress the way they do, but it still is their choice and their freedom to dress the way they want to (at least in western countries). People should have that privilege without having someone violating them.
