| Rip Chris Benoit and all the other family members, it's sad how it went down as double murder-suicide, it's just shows you no matter how happy someone may seem or whatever, were never able to tell the level of mine state they are at or what they are going through in life. | There is the dark ugly side to pro wrestling that some people don't want us to see. There are many more who have been ruined by drugs and steroids to be the perfect body slammer. I personally think the sport is over rated and just garbage really. I prefer the real thing in a real cage, just bare fists. here is a list of wrestlers who have passed on due to the abuse they put their bodies through. Ravishing Rick Rude ... Died at 40 of an apparent heart attack in 1999, a bottle of prescription pills for his bad back at his side. The autopsy report said he died of "mixed medications." Rude was an admitted user of anabolic steroids.
Louis Mucciolo, a.k.a, Louie Spicolli ... Died in 1998 at age 27 when he suffocated on his own vomit after ingesting massive amounts of Soma and alcohol. Investigators also found an empty vial of testosterone, pain pills and an anti-anxiety drug at the scene.
Brian Pillman ... An admitted user of steroids, he died of a heart attack at age 35 in 1997 on the morning of WWF's In Your House: Badd Blood pay-per-view event.
Rick "the Renegade" Williams ... Died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at age 33 after being released from his World Championship Wrestling contract in 1999.
"Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig ... Found dead of a cocaine overdose at age 44 in his motel room on April 10, 2003, the morning of a match. Hennig's father maintained that steroids and painkillers contributed to his death.
Rodney "Yokozuna" Anoa'i ... Died of a heart attack in 2002 at 34.
Davey Boy Smith, "The British Bulldog" .... Died of a heart attack at age 39 on May 17, 2002. An autopsy report indicated that past steroid use had likely played a part in his death.
Michael "Road Warrior Hawk" Hegstrand ... An admitted steroid user, he died of a heart attack at age 46 in 2003.
Michael Lockwood, "Crash Holly" ... In 2003, at the age of 32, he choked to death on his own vomit after ingesting 90 painkiller pills.
Jerry Tuite, "The Wall" a.k.a. "Malice" ... Died at age 36 in 2003 of an apparent heart attack in his hotel room.
Raymond "Hercules" Hernandez ... Dead of heart failure in 2004 at age 47.
Ray "The Big Boss Man" Traylor ... Found dead of a heart attack in 2004 at age 42.
Eddie Guerrero ... After a long battle with painkillers, he was found dead of a heart attack by his nephew in his hotel room at age 38. The first person his nephew reportedly called was Guerrero's best friend, Chris Benoit.
Chris Candido ... Died in 2005 at age 33 from a blood clot after breaking his tibia and fibula and dislocating his ankle in a pay-per-view event.
Owen Hart ... Fell to his death at age 34 in 1999 when the rigging that was lowering him into the ring malfunctioned.
And then there's the story of the Von Erich wrestling family. Wrestling patriarch Fritz Von Erich, nee Jack Adkisson, had five wrestling sons: Kevin, David, Kerry, Mike and Chris. David died in a hotel room in Tokyo at the age of 25 in 1984 just as he was embarking on a three-week pro wrestling tour of Japan. The official cause of death was acute enteritis, severe inflammation of the intestines. Three years later, Mike committed suicide by overdosing on the tranquilizer Placidyl at the age of 23. After David's death, Mike had suffered a series of setbacks including a serious shoulder injury that had left him severely depressed. Devastated by the deaths of his older brothers and frustrated by his own limitations as a wrestler, the youngest and smallest brother, Chris, shot himself to death at the age of 21 in 1991. Two years later, Kerry, who had battled a long addiction to painkillers, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the age of 33, leaving eldest brother Kevin as the only survivor of the sport that had defined his family. Good theatre but very bad history of 'fakin it'.

| Interesting, I don't really follow up these things.
About Chris Benoit story. On news yesterday something I heard really upset me. As mizzstarlight typed the man killed his family, which is true.
Chris Benoit had killed his wife and son and then placed Bibles next to them. Then killed himself. I don't know if its true but this is what was on the news.
R.I.P Chris Benoit's wife and son.

| I felt the same way after I heard what happened. I lost any respect or sympathy that I had for him but I read a newspaper last night. I can't find it right now but it said that his son Daniel was mentally retarded and his illness would be visible when he reached puberty. I think it also said that the illness would cause him to have stunted growth and that Benoit gave his son steroids or something because they found needle marks on his body. Some people might say that he's sick and that he probably wanted his son to be as big as he is but when you think about his son's illness, he might have been doing that because he thought that it would help him. He had problems with his wife because of his son's condition and it was causing a strain on the family. He killed his son by putting him in a choke hold . No one knows exactly what happened. Maybe he killed his wife and then killed his son after he realized that there would be no one to give his son proper care when he got older and needed it. Maybe he got into an argument with her and things got out of hand and that's when he decided to kill his son. Maybe he did take steroids in order to give himself that "roid rage" that would allow him to do what he did because might not have had the guts to do it if he didn't take it. I don't know but it seems like he really did love his son and he did what he did because he thought it was best. I just don't understand why he would do that because with the money he has he could have gotten help and treatment for his son. In the end we're never going to know what he was going through or what was going through his mind when he did what he did. We can only speculate. This isn't the article I read but I found this online: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=2918751 | |

Actually, the wikipedia article wasn't altered to mention his death. It was altered and mentioned his wife's death. “Chris Benoit was replaced by Johnny Nitro for the ECW Championship match at Vengeance, as Benoit was not there due to personal issues, stemming from the death of his wife Nancy.” http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/06/28/wrestler.ap/index.html Oh wow I was just looking it up to find out if there was any new information on who altered the page and I came across this. It happens that someone, not Benoit, altered the wikipedia article and it was a rumor... that turned out to be true. The person had no facts saying that this happened, they just posted it. here's the link: http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Chris_Benoit_mystery_editor_confesses:_Claims_"terrible_coincidence" http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/06/28/wrestler.ap/index.html But, then again this is another wikipedia article so I don't know if it's the truth. Although the IP address matches the person that originally altered the page, it doesn't neccessarly mean that it's the same person... it can still be someone else. I read an article that said it could have been someone from the WWE that knew of it ahead of time and didn't say anything because the IP address was traced back to Stamford, Conneticut, which is where the headquarters of the WWE is. Of course it's possible that someone said they altered it when they really didn't but then again the IP address matches which would be another coincidence. http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/06/28/chris-benoits-wikipedia-entry-knew-nancy-benoit-died-before-the/ Ahhh now I wanna know who really altered the wikipedia article.
